Improve English Conversation

Hey amigos, in today’s special episode I talk about my new coaching style that I did with one of my students recently. It’s to do with English Conversation. We worked together to help her improve her presentation skills in English so she can confidently answer questions. I am sure you will resonate with today’s episode. Enjoy :)

Hey amigos y amigas, I’ve got a special episode for you today. Thanks everyone for tuning in, you are listening to the English Made Simple show, this is episode number 2-1-3, number two hundred and thirteen, numero doscientos trece.

Welcome guys and girl, welcome to the English Made Simple show, my name is Milena and you can find me at

Today’s episode has been brought to you by a special video I created for you on Pronunciation. For those of you who struggle with English pronunciation, I believe this video will open your eyes and ears to English pronunciation. We talk about the Phonetic Alphabet, I also touch on my Audio Masterclass that’s starting on January 21st. Simply go to to watch the video.

OK amigos y amigas, this week I am in Melbourne visiting family and looking after our family cat, Bella. You can see some images of Bella the cat on my Instagram feed.

I am also looking for someone to help me out with Social Media as I’ve been too pre-occupied at the moment to post on Facebook or Instagram so please be patient amigos, will be posting on it soon.

So, what I’d like to do today is talk about my student I had last year. Her name is Rym and she is from France. Thanks Rym for allowing me to talk about your lessons here. I’d like to share them with other listeners, think it will help some people who have same problems when speaking in English.

The outline of our coaching we did together is very, very similar to the Audio Masterclass that I am running on Pronunciation. I’ve done this with a few students who have found it extremely helpful to be able to work at their own pace, because I know we are all busy with our daily commitments… work, family and so on. I know how that can be!

OK, now Rym approached me in September or October last year and she said:

“Hi Milena, I hope you are fine! I am Rym from France. I want to improve my English conversation and I do not know how. I am an assistant professor in economics and I often present my work at international conferences. I prepare my presentation so in general it’s fine but when it comes to answering questions I do not easily find the right words. Expressing my ideas becomes very hard. That stresses me a lot. Can you help me with that! By the way, I am very fun of your work and podcasts.“

Rym has a really good command of English, she even teaches some classes at her university in English.

However, the problem was that when she would present her research and findings in English to a group of audience who may not all be French, but they would be from various backgrounds or may even be from different Universities from Europe. She would be confident presenting in English, because she is confident of her research, she would have written the whole research by herself, she would know it inside out. Right… But when it came to audience asking her questions, then she found it difficult to find the right words. It started to stress her out when she needed to express her ideas in English.

Rym’s area of expertise is economics, and I was very curious to learn about her research. I had some questions around cryptocurrency, online businesses, and property markets and so on. I felt like she was training me on this stuff! I also had learnt a lot, too.
