Transcript Snapshot (Wrapping up 2023)

Well hello, there lovely English learners! Welcome back amigos y amigas to The English Made Simple Show, your go-to source for learning practical English expressions. I’m your host, Milena, and I’m thrilled to wrap up this incredible year with you. As we bid farewell to this year, 2023, let’s take a moment to reflect on the fantastic journey we’ve had together. This year has been a whirlwind for me, diving into the world of cooking with HelloFresh, juggling two jobs, and even trying my hand at a beginner’s course in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Yes, I may not be a spring chicken, but I can assure you, it’s never too late to try something new. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at my age? Now, that’s an adventure! When I say “I am not a spring chicken” – it means I am not that young. If you define ‘young’ to be someone in their teens or twenties or even thirties. Now that’s young. Also, speaking of juggling, have you ever had to juggle two jobs? It means managing two responsibilities simultaneously. For instance, I’ve been juggling my English Made Simple job and my marketing automation job this year. Now, let’s talk about this year being a whirlwind. A whirlwind is a very busy, chaotic, and quickly changing situation. And that’s exactly how this year felt for me with irregular podcast episodes, but you know what? We still hit close to 2 million downloads! Thank you for being part of this whirlwind adventure. And remember, it’s never too late to try something new. Whether it’s learning a new language, picking up a hobby, or even attempting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in your early 40s, just like I did! All I can say is that Brazilian Jiu-Jiutsu is a hard workout. I wasn’t able to last the whole course, so I chickened out. My husband has been practicing martial arts for a long time, so I decided to try it out. Of course he was there with me, laughing. He saw me struggle, he saw me get my butt kicked. But I’m so glad I tried it and that I tried something new, completely out of my comfort zone. Have you done anything like this before? Have you been out of your comfort zone? Righto. Before we move forward, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you amigos. I have to say that your support has been the driving force behind this podcast’s success. Thank you for being with me on this language-learning journey. Now, as the year comes to a close, I want to wish those who celebrate a very Merry Christmas! May your days be filled with joy, laughter, and of course, delicious food. Enjoy the festive season, and may you have a safe and happy holiday break.” As we look ahead to 2024, let’s think about setting new goals. What do you want to achieve in your English learning journey? Is there a specific language skill you’d like to improve? Perhaps you want to expand your vocabulary or enhance your listening skills? Or travel into the future and use robots to help you learn English? Yup, I’ve seen the future. It’s full of nameless grammar-savvy cyborgs. They make English lessons easy, even your pet goldfish could learn to speak English. It’s not that bad, I’m just exaggerating… or am I? Is it me, even speaking here? Or it could be a cyborg.
