Full Transcript (Build a Simple English Routine)

Hey guys! You’re listening to the English Made Simple Show! This is episode number 330, number three hundred and thirty, número trescientos treinta.

Welcome back, amigos y amigas! It’s your host Milena from englishmadesimple.net. Thanks for tuning in today.
If you listened to last week’s episode, you’ll know that I’m officially back in the swing of things after taking some time off. Thank you again for all your kind words and support, it really means a lot.

So now that we’re back, it’s time to start building momentum again. And I thought, what better topic to talk about than routines?

In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about how to build a simple English routine that you can actually stick to. Not one of those routines that sounds amazing in theory, but disappears after two days. Nope! We’re going to keep it simple, realistic, and something you’ll enjoy doing.

Let me ask you something… Have you ever said, “Okay, starting tomorrow, I’ll study English every single day for two hours!” And then… well… that didn’t last long?

Yep. Been there. Done that.
So today, I’ll show you how to create a routine that works for you—and most importantly, one that you can stick to.

Let Me Tell You a Story

Alrighty amigos, let’s bring back Ana and Carlos, shall we? You know, my imaginary friends. They’re still with me and still learning English!

Carlos recently made a big announcement: he wanted to become fluent in English – in just three months! Ambitious, right? So what did he do? He made this massive schedule. Two hours of English every day. Grammar lessons. Pronunciation drills. Reading business articles. Watching TED Talks. The whole shebang!

And guess what happened? After just four days – he gave up. It was too much, too fast.
Now Ana, on the other hand, had a different approach. She said, “Hmm, I’ll just listen to a podcast while I get ready in the morning. Then, I’ll write down three new words. That’s it.”
Simple. Easy. Doable.

And guess who was still learning English a month later? Yep, Ana.
That’s the secret amigos y amigas. Keep it simple. Start small. And build from there.

Useful Expressions

Let’s go over some expressions you’ll hear in today’s episode. You can even start using these in your own routine:
To stick to something – this means to keep doing something regularly. For example: “If you make your routine too hard, you won’t stick to it.”

To get into the habit – this means to start doing something regularly, and it becomes part of your daily life. “Ana got into the habit of listening to podcasts every morning.”

To follow through – this means to finish what you planned to do. “Carlos didn’t follow through with his two-hour study plan.”
To burn out – this means to feel tired or unmotivated because you did too much too quickly. “If you study too much, too soon, you might burn out.”

Repeat After Me

Okay amigos, it’s time to practise together. I’ll say a sentence, and you repeat after me. Ready?

I want a routine I can stick to.
I’m getting into the habit of studying English.
I don’t want to burn out.
Nice one! Well done, amigos y amigas!

Quick Tips to Build Your English Routine

Here are a few tips to help you build your own simple English routine:

Tip 1: Start small. Even 10 minutes a day is better than one hour once a week.
Tip 2: Attach your routine to something you already do. For example, listen to a podcast while brushing your teeth.
Tip 3: Be flexible. Some days will be busy. And that’s okay!
Tip 4: Track your progress. You can write it in a notebook or use an app.
Tip 5: Celebrate small wins. Did you finish an episode today? Awesome! Give yourself a high five. Yes, right now! Go on, do it!

Final Words

If you’ve been struggling to stay consistent with your English, don’t worry. You’re not alone. Just start small. Even listening to this podcast today counts as progress!

And exciting news amigos y amigas – this episode is part of a mini-series I’m calling the Restart Your English Learning Program.

Next week in Episode 331, we’ll talk about what to do when you feel stuck with your English. And then in Episode 332, we’ll explore how to make English part of your daily life. So make sure you tune in to the next episodes – they’re going to help you stay motivated and inspired!

And if pronunciation is something you want to improve right now, I’ve got something special for you! You can now book a private session with me.
