Easy peasy japanes-ey!

You know what else is easy peasy?

Today’s episode!

Well, maybe not competing in the Olympic Games, but talking about them is certainly going to be fun.

Let me start off by asking you a question:

Have you ever found yourself in a social situation where you didn’t know what to talk about? It can be a bit awkward, right? But don’t worry, amigos y amigas, I’ve got a great tip for you. The Olympic Games can be a fantastic ice-breaker!

Icebreaker Conversations

An icebreaker is something you say or do to relieve tension and start a conversation. The Olympics are perfect for this because almost everyone has some interest in sports, and there’s always something exciting happening during the games.

The Olympics are happening right now in Paris, and it’s the perfect opportunity to practice your English. Whether you’re a sports fan or just enjoy the excitement, talking about the Olympics is a great way to start a conversation. Here are some tips to help you chat like a pro:

Ask About Favorite Sports:

“Which Olympic sport do you enjoy watching the most?” This is a great way to find common ground and keep the conversation going.

Share Fun Facts:

“Did you know that skateboarding is now an Olympic sport? It’s amazing to see how the games evolve!” Sharing interesting tidbits can make you sound knowledgeable and keep the conversation interesting.

Talk About Your Country’s Performance:

“How is your country doing in the Olympics? Have they won any medals?” This can lead to a deeper discussion about different cultures and countries.

Express Excitement:

“I can’t believe how incredible the opening ceremony was! What did you think of it?” Showing enthusiasm can make the conversation more engaging and fun.

Discuss Future Events:

“Which events are you looking forward to the most? I’m really excited for the gymnastics finals!” Looking ahead keeps the conversation current and forward-focused.

Phrases and Expressions

Ice-breaker – A way to start a conversation and make people feel more comfortable.
Common ground – Something shared by two or more people that can help them connect.
Now, let me tell you about some of my favorite Olympic sports. You can use these as conversation starters too!

Basketball

I love watching basketball. The fast pace and incredible skills of the players are just amazing. You can say, “Basketball is so exciting, especially when it goes into overtime!”

Overtime is extra time added to a game when the score is tied at the end of regular time.

Archery

Archery is another sport I enjoy. It’s all about precision and focus. You might start a conversation with, “Have you seen the archery competition? It’s so impressive how accurate they are!”

Precision means being very accurate and exact.
