Transcript Snapshot (Reflecting on 2024)

Hey guys! You’re listening to the English Made Simple Show! This is episode number 326, numero trescientos veintiséis.

Welcome back, amigos y amigas! It’s your host, Milena, here with another episode of the English Made Simple Show. Can you believe it? Another year has come and gone, just like that! It feels like 2024 only just started, and now we’re getting ready to welcome 2025. Time really does fly, doesn’t it?

In today’s episode, I want to do something a little different. Let’s take a moment to pause and reflect on the past year. What were your highlights? What did you learn? And what are you looking forward to in 2025? I’ll share some of my personal highlights, including a big milestone and a memorable concert I attended. Plus, we’ll chat about the habits we might want to leave behind and the goals we’re excited to chase in the new year.

So grab a cup of tea or coffee—whatever keeps you cozy—and let’s reflect together. This will be a thought-provoking and uplifting episode, so stick around!

Let’s kick things off with a simple question: What was your highlight of 2024?

Take a moment to think about it. Was it something big, like starting a new job or going on an amazing trip? Or maybe it was something small but meaningful, like reconnecting with an old friend or finally making time for a hobby you love.

For me, there were two standout moments this year that really made an impact.

The first one: I moved into a new home!

If you’ve been following the podcast, you might know how much of a journey this has been. Moving house is no joke! There was packing, organizing, finding removalists, and coordinating everything—and let me tell you, I am so done with packing! But in the end, it was all worth it. Now that I’m settled, it feels like a fresh start, and I’m so grateful to have a space to call my own.

The second highlight: I attended a Yamandu Costa concert here in Adelaide.

For those of you who don’t know, Yamandu Costa is an incredible Brazilian guitarist. His performance was absolutely breathtaking—he poured so much passion and emotion into every note. But what really stood out to me wasn’t just his music—it was how he connected with the audience despite not speaking English fluently.

At one point, he tried his best to address the crowd in English, and although his words weren’t perfect, his effort was so genuine. He even apologized for his “broken English,” but before he could finish, people in the audience shouted, “Nah, you’re okay, mate!” They were cheering him on, encouraging him, and supporting him. It was such a beautiful moment of connection.

Here’s the lesson for us, amigos y amigas:

You don’t need to have perfect English to make an impact. What matters is trying, being brave, and putting yourself out there. Yamandu’s broken English didn’t matter because his passion and effort shone through. So, next time you’re worried about making mistakes when speaking English, remember—you’re already winning by trying. People appreciate effort more than perfection.

So, amigos, what about you? What were your big wins this year? I’d love to hear from you—feel free to message me or share your story!
