Transcript Snapshot

Hey guys, you are listening to the English Made Simple show, this is episode 2-1-4, number two-hundred and fourteen, numero doscientos catorce.

Welcome amigos y amigas, welcome to the English Made Simple show, this is Milena, your host at www.englishmadesimple.net – how’s it going everyone?

I’ve been staying in Melbourne for a couple of weeks and just when I arrived back in Adelaide, we get the heatwave. Even Adelaide broke its own record, 46.6 degrees Celsius. Crazy – you can’t do anything in that heat. So what’s a girl to do? Stock up on some ice-cream, turn the Aircon on and stay indoors.

So today’s episode is dedicated to those who live overseas, who live in an English-speaking country such as New Zealand, Australia, the US, UK or Canada and they are not so confident at speaking in English.

You are finding it difficult to communicate in English or to express yourself in English.

Why?

I’ll tell you a true story.

About 15 years ago, I was told that I sound arrogant when I speak English…back then.

My reply to them was: you say it like it’s a bad thing… what do you mean I sound arrogant: arrogance is my middle name haha

No, but all jokes aside people.

Yes true story, one of my colleagues told me I sound arrogant because I am very abrupt when I construct sentences. I don’t beat around the bush, I just go straight to the point, very direct.

This happened because at the time, I didn’t have the right vocabulary that could’ve helped me express myself better with my colleagues.
