Hey guys, you are listening to English Made Simple, this is episode number 2-3-3, number two-hundred and thirty-three, numero doscientos treinta y tres

Welcome back everybody, thanks for tuning in today, this is episode number 233. And my name is Milena and I am the host of the English Made Simple show, you can find me at www.englishmadesimple.net, englishmadesimple (punto) net.

How’s it? How is it going?

Great to hear you’re doing well amigos y amigas.

Today is about shopping.

I’m sure most of you shop.

Maybe you shop for groceries – the stuff you buy at a supermarket, maybe you like to buy shoes, maybe you shop for clothes, maybe you shop for video games, do a bit of online shopping…

I don’t think I’ve ever done an episode about this. More specifically about being at a checkout.

I’m using checkout as a noun here.

So guys, before we get straight into today’s show, just wanted to let you know that if you’re interested in keeping up-to-date with episodes you can go to www.englishmadesimple.net. When you go on there, scroll all the way down the page and enter your name and email to keep up to date with EMS episodes.

Every week you’ll receive an email from me updating you on the latest episode plus get a little background about the episode and if we are using any phrases, you’ll get more examples in the emails.

Great, now that that’s all said and done, let’s move on with today’s topic.

Checkouts.

What is a checkout?

According to Weon Inteligente “the place in a shop, especially a large food shop, like a supermarket, where you pay for your goods”

It’s that thing that goes “beep, beep”

My very first job was working at the checkouts at our local supermarket in New Zealand. The name of the supermarket was Pak N Save.

I did mention my working at the supermarket in one of the earlier episodes but I didn’t mention the phrases you’d expect to hear once you’re there.

Today, I’ll share 3 phrases that you’d expect to hear when you’re out shopping and wanting to pay for your goods.

I’ll share more examples in my emails, so be sure to enter your details to keep updated.
