Hey amigos, you are listening to the English Made Simple show, this is episode number 1-9-9, number one hundred and ninety-nine, numero ciento noventa y nueve.
Welcome back everyone to another episode of the English Made Simple show, my name is “Milena Chilena even though I am not a Chilena but I call myself that because it rhymes” or you can just call me Milena from www.englishmadesimple.net – that’s cool, too!
Let me start off with a couple of questions: how often do you visit a hairdresser? How often do you have a haircut?
Is it true that girls visit hairdressers more often than guys?
Hmm not sure about that last question…
One of my colleagues from work gets a haircut every month. He was shocked when I said every 3 months or so.
My husband gets one every 6 months or until he starts to look like a hairy monster that gives me nightmares, then we know it’s time… we know we’ve reached that critical point and we have to cut the hair.
Ok jokes aside, amigos, do we say get a haircut or have a haircut? Is there a difference?
We can use both actually…. You can choose which one you prefer, you feel comfortable with using and stick with it.
To get a haircut or have a haircut – both of these expressions are what we call collocations in English. You can learn more about collocations in some of the previous episodes, episodes such as number 165 – Learn 3 collocations with the word TAKE, 158 – Speak like a native speaker, 015 – Learn Collocations and episode number 160 – Take a look, take a photo (Plus more phrases)
Alrighty, so I think you guessed it! Today’s episode is about getting a haircut, you will be learning some new vocabulary and new phrases about going to hairdressers for a haircut.
